Default Question for Anet about the Hall of Monuments

The Hall carries over into Guild Wars 2, and all the greatness you achieved will still be on display, despite the fact that the action of the game takes place several hundred years after the first GW. This is about more than just bragging rights, though. Thanks to your efforts in GW, your character in GW2--the descendant of your GW character--will have access to exclusive titles, companions, pets, armor, and weapons.

When you create your character in Guild Wars 2 you can choose a character from Guild War to inherit these unlocks from.
Now, I am not asking for details right now, not by any means. I fully realize that the details are yet to be finalized, and as such, you cannot tell us the details yet.

My question though is this: Will you give us the details about what accomplishemnts earn which monuments, and which monuments will unlock which type of item in GW2 at the release of GW:EN?

I don't think giving us details like XX monument will give you a axe with xx damage, etc... would be practical since some of those things can change, but here are some examples of what I am looking for: (The first part of which obviously will have to be released with GW:EN since that's where the hall starts)

Example 1:
Quote:
When your character ascends, an Ascension Monument is erected in his honor. (this will obviously be known with GW:EN)

The Ascension Monument will unlock a new style of armor in GW2 (This is the info that I am wondering if we will have)

Example 2:
Quote:
When your character succeeds in defeating Glint, Rotscale, and Kunnavaang, a Dragon-slayer monument is erected in honor of this feat. (this will obviously be known with GW:EN)

The Dragon-slayer Monument will unlock a miniature in GW2 (This is the info that I am wondering if we will have)

Example 3:
Quote:
When your character reaches Survivor, a Survivor monument is erected in honor of this feat. For each additional level of Survivor,(Indomitable Survivor, Legendary Survivor) the monument is upgraded. (this will obviously be known with GW:EN)

A level one Survivor Monument unlocks a single weapons in GW2
A level two Survivor Monument unlocks a two weapons in GW2
A level three Survivor Monument unlocks three weapons in GW2 (This is the info that I am wondering if we will have)

Again, the question is not if you can give details now, I know that you cannot. The question is if, when GW:EN is released, (or before) you will give us at least the categories of the unlocks for each monument so that we can spend our time focusing on the areas we want to unlock for GW2?

For example, a person who wants miniatures will be able to focus on getting those monuments, while a person who prefers to unlock companions can focus on those monuments.

And by the way, thank you (in advance) for the Hall of Monuments, it is an awesome gift to the vetran GW players!

The Other question I have regarding the HoM is, is it dynamic?
I.e if I go get another relevant title on Shan AFTER she's done Gwen will the HoM be updated to reflect that.

Or Do I have to choose when to 'lock' Shan's achievements so the HoM can be built, and any further changes don't count..

If you read the Kotaku article, it talks about it being an instanced sort of "base of operations". I equate that to the Command Post in NF

... minor spoiler alert ...
As you continue the missions and quests, NPCs get dynamically added to the Command Post, and you eventually build up a well populated area in that instance.
... end minor spoiler alert ...

The impression it gives me is that it is indeed dynamic as it talks about that you continue to unlock monuments.

Where it will likely not be dynamic is when you inherit to a GW2 char. Most likely you will inherit what is there at the time, and if you go back to GW1 and do something else, it wouldn't be dynamically added, you would have to re-inherit, but that is all speculation lol

I don't think the mechanics of the Hall of Monuments should be given to us now.

Let us discover this for ourselves.

But Shanaeri's point is valid, can we continue to unlock for GW2 at the Hall after you have created an "inheritor" and accepted the unlocks.

Will we know the categories? Well we can all hope . But of course, we have no idea 'til it happens or they feel like telling us.

For sure there will be things to discover, but I sincerely hope that at the very least when GW:EN is released and the Hall begins, that monuments will give us the categories of what they unlock.

Otherwise, how will folks know what monuments they want to go for?

^I don't think we can actually visit it in GW:EN, I think we just do quests and stuff that affect what's in it in GW2

I want to know, what can I do in GW, but not necessarily know the Gw2 result.
Aka what should I be grinding for unknown or hinted at rewards in GW2.

I just wanted to post what it says in PCGamer. I realize this is not "official" by any means, but if Anet is reading this thread, I think this what most people "expect" when they hear about the Hall of Monuments.

"... The Hall of Monuments will act like a family inheritance in Guild Wars 2, a place where your Guild Wars 1 titles and minipets, for example, are displayed and allow you access to certain Guild Wars 2 benefits. For example, special weapons you earned in Guild Wars 1 may be in a display case in your Hall of Monuments, and your Guild Wars 2 character will be abe to take them out and use them."

I just wanna know about reserving your name! Can you do it? And how long does it stay reserved for?

Great thread - I too would like to know the same. At the very least, it would pull me back into playing GW1 and buying Nightfall and GW:EN... because I know what I can choose to work for rather than blindly continuing to play for some unknown reward (which I'd then rather just wait for GW2 and start fresh).

King Kong : all indications at this point in time are you can reserve a name by siimply having an existing character in Guild Wars 1 with that name.

The reason I say this is because since we can link characters to Guild Wars 2 through GW: EN, then theoretically at any time we could link an existing character to Guild Wars 2.

For how long? At least awhile after GW2 is released, possibly as long as Guild Wars 1 exists.

It all depends on for how long characters can use the Hall of Monuments to carry over.

Gaile mention if you link accounts, your name will be reserved.

In the interview w/ Jeff Spain

Quote:
Most central to that idea is the Eye's Hall of Monuments.

In the hall you can store achievements that can then be transferred to a Guild Wars 2 account.

This hall will be located in a sort of base of operations you can establish in Eye of the North. The instanced base will allow you to store not only the Eye of the North achievements in the form of monuments but the achievements earned in all three campaigns.

Every monument earned will unlock something, from heroes and pets to weapons, clothes and miniatures, in Guild Wars 2.

When you create your character in Guild Wars 2 you can choose a character from Guild War to inherit these unlocks from.

Kind of a neat idea, I think. To bad these new character don't also inherit some other attributes or traits from your Guild Wars characters, that would be fantastic.

Strain said the team decided to include this form of inter-character inheritance to make sure that all of the time players spent playing Guild Wars wouldn't be wasted.

I think we'd be able to continue earning achievements in the hall of monuments at least until Guild Wars 2 is released....so a couple years still. Thats what makes the most sense to me.

I'm sure there's got to be some sort of cut-off date, it doesn't seem right for someone to wait until GW2 comes out and then unlock things via the HoM after release. It would be nice, knowing what you have to achieve in the first series so that you can head back to the second and unlock what you want. But it just doesn't seem right to me...

Or it's a "one" time unlock for that specific Gw2 character at creation.

Example you can still do more in GW1, but any additional bonuses will only happen on a new GW2 character, not the one you linked / did previously.

All the info to date does give the impression that you can visit it in GW:EN. It is the central point of the expansion. It then carries over to GW2.

Here are the quotes from the two most recent articles/interviews

Quote:

All that gives me the distict impression that we see it grow/visit it throughout the game, the same way that the Command Post works in NF

That was my 1st thought to, and I was pretty impressed with the idea of having your own base of sorts.
